directions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F Cook bacon in the oven on a baking sheet with sides, turning strips over once, 12 minutes, or until crisp. Drain on paper towel.
  • Place half the cheddar cheese on half the bread slices. Neatly arrange tomato slices, bacon strips, and avocado slices on top of cheese, then top with remaining cheese slices and bread.
  • Heat 2 large heavy skillets or a griddle over medium-low heat. Carefully spread both sides of each sandwich with butter. Grill sandwiches, pressing down frequently with the back of a spatula, until bread is crisp and toasted to an even golden color and cheese is melted, about 2 minutes per side. Serve immediately, cutting sandwiches diagonally into halves.

  1. Loved this recipe. I used a combination of cheddar and swiss on sourdough sandwich bread. It's a great combination of flavors. This made a quick weeknight dinner served with cantaloupe. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Cross the first two fingers on your right hand and take a look. You see that? That's me and this sandwich.

  3. No bacon, used ham instead. I omitted the butter and used my sandwich press - yum, yum, yum. My kids loved this too, now I have to share.....

  5. This was so good! I think though next time I will add the tomato after the sandwhich is cooked (I don't like warm/soften tomato on my sandwhich) just a personal preference. I used recipe#438987 for the bacon and it gave it a nice sweet-heat flavor. Will definate make again! Made for Best of 2010 Cookbook Tag.

My name is Ashley... I have a daughter who is 14 months old and a loving fiance. I'm here to improve my cooking skills, as I can barely manage dinner sometimes! I love to bake, though. Someday, I'll be able to cook every recipe I've saved from here... which is over a thousand. Most recipes I put up are one's I find from books or online; some are for me to remember later on. ***If you really loved a recipe, plan to make it again, and had no complaints... DON'T GIVE IT JUST 4 STARS! Give the recipe its deserved 5 stars.**** With that in mind, if you're going to post a picture of the finished meal/food you just reviewed, at least make it look appealing with better lighting! I've seen some horrible pictures that turned me away completely from making something on here, even though I'm sure the food tastes great.
