Grilling carmelizes the sugars and gives the figs a smoky taste. Use as a garnish, condiment to pork or chicken. Top a salad. A nice way to start or end a meal. This can be pan fried as well.
- 4 fresh figs, cut in half
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 tablespoons crumbled feta cheese
- 8 fresh basil leaves
- Brush figs with olive oil and grill them cut-side down over hot coals for about four minutes.
- Lay each fig on a fresh basil serve them topped with feta cheese.
I really liked this. I grilled the figs and then topped them with feta cheese mashed together with fresh herbs--basil, parsley, thyme--and cracked black pepper. Then I drizzled them with some honey I thinned with lemon juice. Yum!
This is a superb appetizer. The sweet, grilled figs topped with the sharp feta cheese and THAT counter-pointed by the herbiness of the basil - really a textural and flavour masterpiece. This is going to be at all my summer dinner parties, Rita.
Wanted to love it, but just liked it. It was a nice change of pace.
